Who is Sebastien (aka Sebby) St-Laurent?
Sebastien St-Laurent holds a degree in Computer Engineering from Sherbrooke University in Quebec (Canada) where he graduated at top of his class in 1999. Since then, he worked on many video game titles including: Space Invaders, Dave Mira Freestyle BMX, Dave Mira Freestyle BMX2, Aggressive Inline, BMX XXX. Sebastien is now currently employed with the Microsoft Corporation where he is a graphics developer for the Microsoft Game Studios working for the Flight Simulator franchise.
Sebastien St-Laurent is also a published author who has written “Shaders for Game Programmers and Artists” and "The COMPLETE Effect and HLSL Guide".
In addition has done some editorial work for the upcoming ShaderX book series and is the owner and president of Paradoxal Press, LLC.
In 2007, Sebastien was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder and has also since then started efforts to spread awareness about this disorder and how it may affect more people than you may think. Read the "Being Bipolar" page for more information.
What is Paradoxal Press, LLC?
Paradoxal Press was founded in 2004 by Sebastien And Nicole St-Laurent. Sebastien St-Laurent is a software engineer for the Microsoft Corporation, has published his first book "Shaders for Game Programmers and Artists" in early 2004, "The COMPLETE Effect and HLSL Guide" in 2005 and participated in the editorial process for both "ShaderX 4" and "ShaderX 5".
However, Sebastien's experience with the traditional publishing was more than unpleasant. Poor sales, insufficient marketing, countless delays, miscommunication and the lack of commitment towards his second manuscript has lead him to take things into his own hands and form his own publishing company and redefine the rules of publishing.
And from this point on, Paradoxal Press was born. We strive to focus on a limited quantity of high-quality books in the computer science and fiction field. Working hand-in-hand with authors to not only bring better content to the readers but establish a collaborative, long-lasting relationship with our authors.
